JOHN WARD MCANANY, SR

 

J. Ward McAnany, 81, of Kansas City, MO, passed away June 18, 2001, at St. Joseph Health Care Center. Mr. McAnany was born May 24, 1920, in Atchison, KS. He was raised in Shawnee, KS. He graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended Rockhurst College. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and a World War II veteran. He married Mary Martha Sanderson on December 23, 1943. He was a retired Insurance Claim Manager for Crumm and Forrester. Ward was an alderman of the Raytown City Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4962, a Commissioner of the Raytown Police Dept., the first Liquor Control Director of Raytown, and President of the Claims Management Association. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Community Blood Center. He was an avid reader and swimmer. Ward loved fishing and telling his grandchildren wonderful stories. His greatest accomplishments were being a loving husband, father, and True Irishman. He will be most remembered as a strong man who always kept his family together.
