EUGENE F. HUNT

Eugene "Gene" F. Hunt, 84, Raytown, MO, passed away May 11, 2004, at Research Medical Center. Gene was born on September 22, 1919, in Tonganoxie, KS. He graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1938. He was attending Rockhurst College before he joined the Air Force in 1940. Gene served as Staff Sergeant with the 43rd Bomber Group in New Guinea and Australia as an Instrument Technician. During this tenure, he was shot down and lost in the jungles of New Guinea. Upon his return to the States, he married Catherine McCray on November 23, 1945. In 1948, with his wife and parents, Gene opened the Circus Drive Inn, which was famous all over Kansas City for their Circus Franks. On the advice of his friends, Gene broadened his entrepreneurial horizons by going into the moving and storage business. In doing so, Gene had the ability to offer work opportunities to many young men who were working their way through college. Gene was always very proud and fond of all the young men who worked for him. They were part of some very special memories for Gene. Gene's favorite activity was being part of the Raytown Police Reserve Department. He was also a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4962. This association gave him many treasured friendships and Friday night poker games.
