Thomas Gerard McNamara, Sr., 74, of Kansas City, died Feb. 14, 2008 at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Tom entered the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduation from Lillis High School in 1951. Upon return from the military he apprenticed for four years at Ashcraft Printing, Inc., where he was employed for 38 years as a Lithographer. In 1957 Tom married Louwana Ann Shortino, and the couple moved to Raytown, where they lived for 40 years. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was an usher, member and officer of the Holy Name Society, member and officer of the Men's Club, member and officer of the school Athletic Association, United Catholic Credit Union Board member and officer, and on many other church committees. He was an active parent at O'Hara High School, and president of the Booster Club for two terms. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4962. After retirement, Tom moved to Teetering Rocks Villas, where he was a marshal at Teetering Rocks Golf Course and an avid golfer. Tom was passionate about coaching - a span that surpassed 35 years. He was one of the founders of the intramural basketball league in the 1960s at Our Lady of Lourdes, coached a Lourdes school team each year for more than 12 years in the Parochial League, where he was vice-president in charge of basketball for eight years. He coached 3&2 baseball and received a 20-year patch. He also coached Raytown Girls Softball for several years. He was also a basketball and baseball official for many years.
