MSGR. HENRY BAUER

 

Msgr. Henry George Bauer was born on Nov. 20, 1922, in KCMO, to Henry S. & Cecelia (Schreiber) Bauer. Fortified by the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, he died peacefully at Research Hospital on Dec. 8, 2012, after a long & fruitful life.

Msgr. Bauer was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest on April 4, 1948. He was honored twice with ecclesiastical elevation; first to Papal Chamberlain on Feb. 27, 1961, & Domestic Prelate on July 13, 1968. He was proud to have served as President of the National Catholic Cemetery Conference from 1960-1966. He was the Director of the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph from 1958-1981.

Through the long years Msgr. Bauer served as Assistant Pastor at St. Agnes Parish, Springfield; Sacred Heart Parish, KCMO; St. Lawrence Parish, Monett; St. Mary's Parish, Indep.; & Administrator of Holy Family Parish, Leeds (KCMO). He had been Pastor at Nativity BVM Parish, Indep.; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Raytown; Visitation Parish, KCMO & St. Bernadette Parish, KCMO.

Msgr. Bauer retired from parish administration in June of 1991. From that time, he was active in raising money for the Christian Foundation for Children & Aged. He also was a frequent visitor to select missions in Africa & South America. Wherever he went he brought gentle competence & dependable wisdom. Msgr. Bauer was widely admired by his parishioners, peers & friends.
