Ron H. Weber, 83, long-time resident of Owatonna, died Dec. 26, 2013, at Owatonna Hospital. Mass of Christian burial is set for Monday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 810 South Cedar Ave., with the Rev. Michael Cronin presiding. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. A visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Ron was born on Nov. 5, 1930, in Owatonna the son of William A. and Alvina (Schmidt) Weber. After graduating from Owatonna High School in 1948, Ron enlisted in the National Guard and served in the Korean War from 1950 – 1952. He was united in marriage to Donna Jean Miller on Aug. 22, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna. This union brought a son, William. Ron drove truck for Steele Waseca Coop Electric until 1962 when they moved to Michigan to be close to the Penrickton Center for Blind Children where William attended. There he drove truck for Ed Kramer and Sons. Ron retired from trucking in 1983. While in Michigan, Ron was active on the Penrickton Center for Blind Children Board of Directors, served as President of the Polk Lions Club, and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 324. The couple moved back to Owatonna in 1984 and Ron went to work for the Steele County Sheriff Department as a jailer and special deputy transport officer until retiring in 1993. In retirement he worked summers at Forest Hill Cemetery and served on their board as treasurer. He was a member of the V.F.W and American Legion, and an honorary life member of the Owatonna Knights of Columbus Council 945 and Sacred Heart Church. His interests included playing cards and visiting with friends. Ron is survived by his son William A. of Owatonna. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Jean in 2003 and his parents.
