DAN CORANOTO

 

Daniel N. Coranoto, 73, of Hampton Township, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon Township.

Born in Passaic, Mr. Coranoto was raised in Lyndhurst then moved to Hampton Township in 1974. He attended College in California following an Honorable Discharge from the Navy. Mr. Coranoto was a terminal manager for the former Carolina Freight in Carlstadt.

Mr. Coranoto was a Hampton Township Committeeman for over 20 years and served as Deputy Mayor as well. He was a member of the Board of Health and the Recreation Committee, a life member of Hampton Township Fire and Rescue, and an active member and Treasurer of the Sussex County Fire Police. He also actively served on various municipal subcommittees. An Executive Board Member of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, Mr. Coranoto also served as Vice-President in 2010. He was a volunteer member on the State Board of Health, a member of the American Legion, an Eagle Scout and Trustee for the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the Hampton Seniors. A member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton, Mr. Coranoto was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7784.

The son of the late Daniel and Sarah (LaRosa) Coranoto, Mr. Coranoto is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maria; two children, Paul Coranoto of Hampton and Christina Coranoto-Conklin and husband, Bill, of Hardwick; one sister, Barbara Coranoto of Bloomfield; one grandson, Aidan Conklin; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close friend, Mike Petrullo of Hampton Township.

Funeral services will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with Firemen's services at 8 p.m. and Knights of Columbus services at 8:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held Friday, May 15, 2015, from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
