Steve W. Kocurek, Sr. passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 after battling cancer and other ailments. He was predeceased by his wife, Melissa T. (Missy) Michalski, father, Francis Gene Kocurek, and sister Michelle Gonzales.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley A, Kocurek, Adkins, TX, son Steven W. Kocurek, Jr. and wife Carol, San Antonio, TX, brother Frank Kocurek, Adkins, TX, step-daughter, Rebecka K. Huey, Glen Burnie, MD, father-in-law Jack Michalski, The Villages, FL, best friend, Jorge Pousa, wife Denise, The Villages, FL, brother-in-law Stephen E. Michalski, wife Susan, Grandy, NC, and several nieces and nephews.

Steve was born in Bellville, IL on Oct.16, 1960. The family moved to San Antonio, TX in 1968. Growing up, Steve was very active in sports and was a star catcher for Highland High School, San Antonio.

After graduating, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served as a yeoman and was the admiral's and ships writer at various commands. He retired in 1999.

Residing in Norfolk, VA, he was an active member of Norfolk Council 367 and Fr. Matthew O'Keefe Assembly 1162. He was a Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator, Former District Deputy and a member of the Virginia State Council training and membership committees.

He received a BS in Business Management from the University of Virginia. He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding as a Quality Assurance Manager for new construction and repair of nuclear submarines, He retired in 2020.

He moved back to Texas in 2021, and then moved to The Villages, FL in 2023. He was an avid golfer playing several times a week, bowled, and enjoyed the Villages' lifestyle with his many friends. Steve will be sorely missed by family and friends.
