William “Bill†O’Brien, 82 formerly of Shelton passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, KS. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December
28, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery near Wood River. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bill was born December 4, 1941 in Kearney, Nebraska to William O’Brien Sr. and Doris (Lange) O’Brien. He was raised in Shelton, NE and attended Shelton High School. On December 26, 1982, Bill was united in marriage to Delores in Grand Island, NE. Bill was an employee of Cargill Ag Horizon, retiring after 23 years with the company. Bill and Delores moved to Kansas in 2019 to be closer to family.
Bill was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of Platt-Duetsche Society and the Eagle’s Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his step-children, Laura Kellogg of Caney, KS, Sam (Trina) Reed of Caney, KS and Carrie Reed of Joplin, MO; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Carol) O’Brien of Loup City, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores O’Brien; brother, Laverne O’Brien; sisters, Verna Flynn and Dolores Plante. |
