Robert Charles Gillis Sr. Obituary
Robert Charles Gillis Sr. - age 85 of Greenback formerly of Hayward, California passed away July 21, 2024 at his home. He was a veteran serving 9 years in the U. S. Navy and 20 years in the U. S. Army as Sgt. CID. Bob retired from the City of Hayward Police Department. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City and Knights of Columbus. Bob enjoyed photography and snow skiing.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eleanor Gillis, and grandson, Sgt. Shawn G. Adams.
Survived by his longtime companion, Rita Walters; children: Robert C. Gillis (Laura), Debra Cooper (Harry), Michael Gillis (Lori), Joyce Thompson (Jeff), Donald Christopher Gillis, and Bianca Gundry (Kevin); 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren: brother, Donald Gillis along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 -10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Family and friends will gather at 8:30 Thursday morning in the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Gov. John Sevier Highway in Knoxville for graveside services and full military honors.
