Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the St. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji, Minnesota with Father Don Braukmann officiating. A Rosary will be held at 11:30am, Thursday, December 8, 2014 at the Church followed by a time of Visitation that will continue until the service. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
He was born on January 21, 1936, in Grand Forks, MN the son of John and Margaret (Tracy) Ovsak. He was raised in Chicago, Ill., until at the age of 10 he moved to Frazee, MN. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1955. He enlisted in the US Army and later served in the US National Guard for over 20 years. He married Helene Engstrand on September 5, 1960, in Minneapolis, MN. He attended Moorhead State University and after graduating began his career in Education. He worked in many facilities around Minnesota before moving to Bemidji in 1970. He worked for the Bemidji Technical College until his retirement. He had a passion for people to have access to education, and to further their careers, so after retirement he continued working for the Rural Certified Employment Program as well as with Bemidji Schools. He was a member of the Bemidji Eagles Aerie, Bemidji Lion's Club, the North Country Pounders running club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a very active member of the St. Philip's Catholic Church. He enjoyed running, fishing, travel, sporting events, and attending as many of his grandchildren's performances, games, and events as he could.
He is survived by his: Daughters, Valerie (Pat) Rendle of Grand Rapids, MN, Kimberly (Dave) Avenson of Grand Rapids, MN, Angela (Darren) Pagnac of Bemidji, Brothers, Father Will Ovsak of Breckenridge, MN, Richard Ovsak of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sisters, Vaughan Holmes of Rice Lake, Wisc., Joanne (Bruce) Murray of Rochester, MN, 5 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, and his faithful dog Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and his brother George Ovsak.
