Leo Olmschenk, 86, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Philips Catholic Church with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 with a 7 p.m. prayer service and 7:30 p.m., Knights of Columbus Rosary at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Leo Nicholaus Olmschenk was born May 16, 1928 in St. Martin, MN to Joseph and Mary (Doll) Olmschenk. He grew up in St. Martin and Melrose. He attended St. Agnes High School in St. Paul. On April 15, 1950 he married Mary Ann Uphus in Greenwald, MN. Leo was a carpenter, contractor and master craftsman for his entire life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sports enthusiast, he especially loved the Minnesota Twins. Leo was a supervisor and chairman on the board of Schoolcraft Township from 1997 - 2012. He was a longtime member of St. Philips Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Olmschenk of Bemidji; children, Mary Lee Gerber of Eden Prairie; Margie Denton of LaPointe, WI; Lee Roy (Vickie) Olmschenk of Alexandria; Monica (Gary Grisbeck) Olmschenk of Minneapolis; Melinda (Michael) Silbernick of Maple Grove; Melody Nietfeld of Kapaav, HI and Michelle (Richard) Nietfeld of Elk River; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and sister Alice (Mark) Rothstein of St. Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eleanor Wilhelm; 3 brothers, Herbert, Charles and Ernest Olmschenk and grandson, Eric Nietfeld.
