ROBERT W. BENSON

 

BK Robert W. Benson, age 96, passed away on May 13, 2025, at St. Mark's Living in Austin, MN.
The funeral service was held on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Brick-Meger Funeral Home with Msgr. Thomas Cook presiding. Friends greeted the family prior to the funeral service. Knights of Columbus Council #945 recited the Rosary and military honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit.
Robert was born on October 22, 1928, in rural Blooming Prairie, MN, the son of Ruben and Adrena Benson. He attended country school and later enlisted in the Army and served his country from 1951 to 1953. He was united in marriage to Jane F. Meixner on April 15, 1955. They made their home in Owatonna and adopted two daughters, Theresa (Terri) and Tammy. Robert worked for Ulland Brothers Construction from 1953 until his retirement in 1992.
Robert was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Eagles Club, the 49ers Union and the Teamsters Union. Robert had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, trapping, hunting, fishing, and especially his many trips to the Buckhorn Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends, family and his many dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jane, his daughters Theresa (Dean) Schuette of Claremont, MN, and Tammy (Craig) Lee of Geneva, MN; grandchildren, Cassie (Tony) Zacharias of Owatonna, Chase Schuette of Peoria, Ill, and Megan Lee of Dodge Center, MN; and great-grandchildren Lillian and Isabella Zacharias of Owatonna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Adrena Benson; brothers Richard, Gordon, Laurence, and David; and sister Marcella Ramsey.
