Steve Wassenberg. a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud Navy veteran, and faithful servant of God, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, May 07, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Pat Wassenberg. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Dorothy; his two sons, Greg and Scott; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, relatives, and many dear friends.
Born on January 18, 1942, in Marysville, Kansas, Steve lived a life defined by love of family and service to country. He enlisted in the United States Navy at 17 years of age and was an ROTC graduate of the University of Kansas in May 1964, serving his country for over 25 years. Throughout his distinguished naval career, he exemplified courage, dedication, and leadership, earning the respect and admiration of his peers.
In June 1964, he married Dorothy, and off they went for a full life with the military. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and his steadfast belief in helping others.
In his free time, Steve enjoyed coaching kids’ sports, soccer, and basketball. Steve loved children and could often be found sneaking tootsie rolls and making paper airplanes with them in church. His legacy is one of unwavering love, selfless service, and a life lived in devotion to family and God. |
