John Joseph Van Gheem, 81, of De Pere, passed away peacefully in his home in April 22, 2025. He was born on March 20, 1944, in De Pere, to Raymond and Charlotte (Collette) Van Gheem.
John was a graduate of De Pere High School, Class of 1962. John served in the US Marine Corp, including a tour in Vietnam. John married Michele Guhl at St Mary’s Church in De Pere on June 22, 1968. In his early adult years, John was an avid softball player and coach for local bar league teams, including Norb’s Broadway Bar and Century Lanes. John spent many years as an accountant for his own business, J Van Accounting, until his retirement. John enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He was the kind of guy to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He had a tough-guy exterior but was really a softy at heart.
John is survived by his sons, Jon Michael and Jeremy; grandson Zack; brother Jim Van Gheem and his children Tom (Chris), Tim, and Tammy; sister Sue (Mike) Walsh and their children Tina (James), Chad (Lauren), Kristy (Nate); sister-in-law Jeanne Maricque and her children Andy (Chris), Mike (Sonya), Ed (Fiona), Kate (David), Joel (Jenny); nephews Jeff and Josh; nieces Kris (Robert), Dana, Wendi, nephew Al (Melissa); niece Michelle Moore. Michele’s brother Shaun (Bonnie), sister Danielle, sister-in-law Debbie; nieces Deanna (Lucas), Sandy, Christina; nephews Marty, Alex, Ben, Jason.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife Michele on February 2, 2025, his parents, his in-laws Charles and Virginia Guhl, his brothers Richard, David (Sandi), his sister Mary (Tony) Vissers, sister-in-law Barb Van Gheem; nephew Jared Van Gheem; Michele’s brother Kevin.
