Norman J. Beat, 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family. Norman was born on March 21, 1935 to the late Clarence and Agnes Beat and was the eldest of six children.
Norman graduated from Wellington High School and continued his education at St. Benedict College in Atchison, Kansas. He was enlisted in the United States Army and stationed in Fort Knox from 1957 - 1959. By his first marriage to the late Patricia Yochum, he raised two daughters: Teresa and Mary Rosetta. Norman worked as an officer with the Louisville Police Department, later becoming Louisville Metro Police Department, and retired after 30 years of service. In his retirement, he handled residential lawn care in East Louisville.
Norman was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the St. Serra Club. When he participated in something, he did so to the fullest. He was a generous, devoted, honest, and hardworking man.
In addition to his parents, Norman is preceded by his second marriage, Barbra Embrey Beat, and her children: Greg Bennett and Beth Bennett, and his siblings: Father Jerome Beat and Jovita Crissman. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters: Teresa (Bob) Ward and Mary Rosetta Brumback; grandchildren: T.J. Ritter and Ashton Brumback; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; his siblings: Melva Cummings, Leroy Beat, and Larry Beat; his four-legged companion, his dog, Allie, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will all miss him very much.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Ratterman Brothers, East Louisville (12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40243). Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am,Thursday, April 3, 2025 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (7813 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40222) and entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park (2778 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150). |
