David Lee Hurd, Sr, 73, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025 under hosparus care. Dave was born October 8, 1951 in Covington, Kentucky to Douglas Lawrence Hurd, Sr. and Wilma Grace Hurd, and raised in Newport, Kentucky. He had a long and successful career in control systems engineering, graduating from the Speed School of University of Louisville and working 25 years for General Electric, various consulting firms and most recently, for Honeywell as an Executive. His work gave him the opportunity to travel all over the world, which he enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Elana Hurd. Dave is survived by his wife of 54 years Lois Darlene Hurd, his brothers, Doug (Elana) Hurd, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, and Danny (Eileen) Hurd of Pendleton County, KY, daughter Angela Hurd Greer, son David Lee Hurd, Jr, grandson Michael David Johnson and granddaughter Allison Greer, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dave had a great love for music, playing in bands in high school and continuing to play over the years as a drummer and bassist in his church communities, as well as singing in choirs. He had the opportunity in recent years to travel to Las Vegas and performed as an opening act for Madonna and studied under Gene Simmons, impressing all with his skill as a drummer. Most recently, as a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Louisville, Kentucky, he regularly played the drums for Mass and sang in the choir. Dave also actively served in the Knights of Columbus, a charitable council of the Catholic Church, where he assisted with multiple outreach events, special needs programs, honor guards, and fundraisers.
Visitation will be 1-5 pm Sunday January 19, 2025 at Ratterman Bros. Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd, Louisville KY 40207. Funeral Mass service will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11 am at St. Margaret Mary, 7813 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40222. Burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery Chapel following Mass, at 1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville KY 40205. Memorials are suggested St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. |
