With a heavy heart and surrounded by a loving family, we announce the death of Raymond “Ray†Mooren, 79 years old, De Pere, WI on January 10, 2025, coinciding with both his late father’s and his youngest grandchild, Elizabeth’s birthdays. He was born March 15, 1945, the oldest of eight children to the late Joseph and Ethel (Van Den Heuvel) Mooren in the township of Oneida. He graduated from Freedom High School class of 1963. He married Nancy Buechler on June 26, 1970 in Wrightstown and in June celebrated 54 years of marriage.
“There’s no fun like work†was his mantra. He was a dedicated member of I.B.E.W. Local 158, and employed by Van Den Heuvel Electric, Eland Electric and Austin Straubel International Airport besides working part-time as an electrical inspector.
He did not let “any grass grow under his feetâ€; he was a Scout leader and past President of Parish Council and Building & Grounds committee at the former St. Joseph Parish, De Pere, volunteer at De Pere Christian Outreach and member of the Knights of Columbus, De Pere.
Despite chronic pain, Ray, “Mr. Fix-It†tackled projects for anyone needing a helping hand and building woodworking projects at home, which Nancy greatly appreciated.
After camping with the family in earlier years, Ray loved the north woods west of Crivitz and spending time at his cabin. Playing sheepshead, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events made his day. He enjoyed watching stock car races in the area, especially helping in the pit. Nancy and Ray enjoyed attending many girls’ and boys' state high school basketball tournament games in Madison and Green Bay.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Nancy. They were blessed with 3 sons and a daughter: Timothy (Missy Rogers), Algoma; Terry (Kathy) Mooren, Kiel; Tracie Mooren, De Pere; Troy (Nikki) Mooren, De Pere and eight grandchildren, Garrett, Allysa, Kassidy and Jacob Mooren, Jack Cygan, Brady Rogers , Natalie and Elizabeth Mooren. He is further survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Buechler, De Pere, sister-in-law, Carol (Jim) Henrichs, Highland IL and brother-in-law Bill Buechler (Lynn), Appleton.
