It is with great sadness that the family of Matthias Eichhorn Jr. announce his passing on 12/12/2024. Matthias will be sadly missed and remembered by all who loved him.
Matthias was the beloved son of his late parents Matthias and Helen Eichhorn. Brother to the late Norman Eichhorn, loving husband to the late Frances (nee Whitman) Eichhorn. Father to the late Kurt Eichhorn (Deborah), Judy Tracy, Mark Eichhorn (Dawn), Carol Marx (Steve), Eric Eichhorn (Michelle), Paula Parat (Bob), Sarah Castaneda (Rick); grandfather to several grandchildren and step grandchildren; great grandfather to four great grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Matthias was a veteran and served as a Sargent, service company of the 131st infantry regiment in the United States Army. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, honorary life member of Council # 6964. He was a barber as his father before him and later went to work for the U.S. Post Office. He played his trumpet in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. Matthias loved to play his harmonica for all to hear.
Matthias met the love of his life Frances roller skating and said he was going to marry her. He married Frances (Frau) on 8/23/1952.
After retirement he traveled across the country with his wife and settled in Mesa, Arizona, where they lived happily for some 25 years before returning home to Illinois to be closer to family.
Matthias was quite the storyteller and loved to talk to everyone. He was a proud father of his children. He was a man of simple pleasures and lived a simple life. His favorite past time was to watch old black and white T.V. shows such as Perry Mason, Marcus Welby MD, MASH, old westerns and many others.
May he rest in peace. He will be missed.
