Eugene G. Griffin, 69, of Aurora passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Alden of Naperville. He was born August 24, 1934 in Evanston, IL, the son of Thomas J. and Bernadette (Lavin) Griffin.
Mr. Griffin graduated from high school in Knoxville, TN and attended Notre Dame University. While at Notre Dame, he was sports editor for the Golden Dome yearbook and was a member of the editorial board of the Notre Dame Lawyer, a student law publication. In 1957 he received his BS degree, graduating with honors, and in 1958 he graduated from the Notre Dame Law School.
Mr. Griffin was united in marriage to Sue Corcoran in Sibley, IA.
Prior to establishing his law practice in Aurora, Mr. Griffin worked for the legal division of the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was later appointed as a legal assistant to the Honorable Raymond J. Kelly, a member of the U.S. District Court, for the disposition of litigation before the Alaskan Federal Court as Alaska was transitioning from territorial to statehood status. Mr. Griffin also served as an assistant Kane County State’s Attorney and subsequently was associated with several law firms during his legal career.
Mr. Griffin enjoyed coaching and watching his children play sports. He was a past president of the West Aurora Sports Booster Club.
Mr. Griffin is survived by Sue; five children; Mike (Helen) Griffin, Tom (Rose) Griffin, Jim (Cathie) Griffin, Tim (Kris) Griffin, Molly (Sean) King; a brother, Edward (Molly) Griffin; sisters-in-law Ann (Saul) Cooper and Elizabeth Pruitt; mother-in-law, Ruth Corcoran; fourteen grandchildren; a niece, nephews, and many cousins.
Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his mother and father, and a brother, Thomas.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 from 4 to 7 PM at the Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL. There will be a liturgical wake service at 7 PM. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at 10:30 AM from The Hearly Chapel to Holy Angels Church, Lancaster and Hardin Ave., Aurora, IL for an 11 AM funeral Mass with Fr. Godwin Asuquo celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
