It is with great sadness to announce that Dr. Joseph “Joe†Vytenis Bakanas left this world on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the age of 65. Joe was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a dedicated follower of God, a hardworking and highly respected Podiatrist, a Proud Lithuanian, and a great friend to so many.
Joe was born in Chester, PA, on July 24, 1958, to the late Ludwig and Teresa Bakanas. He graduated from St. James High School in Chester, PA and attended St. Joseph’s University for college before being recruited into the Army where he served as a Medic. After completing a few years of military service, Joe was honorably discharged and continued to pursue a career in the medical field. While working full time to provide for his family, Joe continued his education. He worked as a surgical technologist for 10 years and a licensed Registered Nurse for 14 years, where he later supervised in the Operating Room at Christiana Care. His dream came true when he was accepted into Medical School and earned his “Doctor of Podiatric Medicine†degree at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia. He graduated top of his class and continued to practice as a Podiatrist for 18 years. During his free time, Joe loved to spend time with his family, watch his grandchildren play sports, and go to the beach.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Anna Marie; his daughter, JoAnna, & son-in-law, Tony; grandchildren: Lynnea, Ariel, Leslie, Rocco, and Michelle; sister, Donna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angelique (Angel); and sister, Maria. His early departure is truly a loss. Joe leaves a lasting memory as always being humble and kind and helping everyone he could. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by so many. |
