John D. Burk, 81, Duncansville, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his family. He was born in Chester, son of the late David H. Burk and Theresa M. (Rhodes) Burk-Wilt. He married Vicki L. Teegardin on Sept. 24, 1965, at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Surviving are his wife; three children: Lisa Colabrese (Ron), Mark Burk (Lisa) and Mike Burk (Michelle); 12 grandchildren: Ben, RJ, Lance, Lauren, Karissa, Lindsey, Chase, Logan, Juliana, Tanner, Rylee and Grant; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Grey; and a sister, Mary Bowser (Robert). John was a 1962 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He went into the Army for 4 years prior to attending Johnstown Barber School. He first started his barber career as an apprentice at Peoples Barber Shop. In 1967, he started work at The Mall Barber Shop, which he purchased in 1989. John sold the business in 2007, but continued to work there until he started work at Broad Avenue Barber Shop in 2016. He retired in June 2024 after being a barber for 59 years. He was a member of the Allegheny Club, Heidelberg Country Club, American Legion and Knights of Columbus, where he enjoyed helping with chicken BBQs. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and going to the casino. He loved the Christmas season and decorating, but above all, John enjoyed being with his family. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Duncansville. Father Jeremy J. Mohler will officiate. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Duncansville.
