COUNCIL #1384 - ANNAPOLIS REMEMBERS
CHARLES D. SLADE

A few years ago Doug moved to Florida. Some of you will remember that he used to regularly help at K of C bingo and the annual carnivals. He was also an accomplished musician and he was an enthusiastic member of St. Mary’s choir. His son mentioned that because Doug lived in Annapolis for many years that he thought his funeral may be in Annapolis.

Charles Douglas Slade, 80, of The Villages in Florida, passed away on February 23, 2015 at his home. Born in 1934 in Annapolis, MD, Doug was the son of Charles and Martha Slade. Doug was employed for over 25 years by the Library of Congress in Washington, DC in the Human Resources Department. Like his father, Doug had a deep passion for horses and was an avid sailor. He spent many years before and after his retirement from the Library of Congress sailing the waters of the Chesapeake Bay with his friends and family on his sailboat, the "Rubayait". Doug received his Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees in Psychology from the University of Maryland. He is survived by his son, Douglas Shipley, his wife Laura and his grandchildren Christopher, Elizabeth and Caitlyn and one great granddaughter, Avalea. Doug is also survived by his sister, Anne Slade Beetel, her husband, Dr. Christopher J. Beetel, and their four children, Kathleen Hanrahan, Mary Ann Moffitt, Thomas Beetel and Christopher Beetel. There will be a service of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius Church, West Lawn, on Saturday, March 28 at 10AM, followed by an internment ceremony on Monday, March 30 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Trenton, NJ.
