Ron was born on May 16, 1949, in Le Mars, Iowa to Merlin and Lillian Garvin. He graduated from Marcus Community High School.


Following high school, Ron earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanized Agriculture from South Dakota State University and where he joined the Air Force ROTC program. When done with college, he went into active-duty service where he served for 25½ years. While in the military he was stationed in five states and three foreign countries. Also, while in the military, he earned a master's degree in human resource management from the University of Utah.


Once retired, he earned a bachelor's degree in information technology from the University of Phoenix. He worked at the Reid Park Zoo and Corpus Christi Catholic Church as the maintenance supervisor. Also, he was very active in the Knights of Columbus serving in various positions and was a Fourth Degree Knight.


Survivors include his wife, Jackie and daughter, Becky of Tucson, AZ. Other survivors include four siblings: Larry Garvin of Marcus, IA, Marilyn Goody of Riverside, IA, Dennis (Jean) Garvin of Hales Corners, WI, and Jane (Steve) Edwards of Marshalltown, IA. Also, surviving Ron are six nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews.


Preceding Ron in death are his parents, brother Terry Garvin, and brother-in-law, Richard Goody.
