Francis "Don" Stammer, also affectionately known as "Sugarfoot," 90, and his beloved wife Rose Marie Flanigan Stammer, 84, passed away within a day of each other, marking the end of a remarkable journey together. Francis was born on January 29, 1934, in Denison, Iowa, and Rose was born on November 19, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan. They both passed away in Sugar Grove, Illinois; Rose on June 26, 2024, and Francis on June 27, 2024. They are survived by their children: Mary Smart, Janet Stammer, Donald Stammer and his wife Debra, Julie Smith and her partner Craig Schielke, Lori Hahn and her husband Dennis, Ruth Kramp and her partner Steve Moore, and Patrick Stammer and his wife Yasmine. Their legacy continues through their grandchildren: April Viland and her husband Josh, Tony Stammer and his wife Jenny, John Smart, Samantha Young, Joe Hahn, Ellie van Hauwermeiren and her husband Olivier, Patrick Stammer, and David Hahn. They were also blessed with great-grandchildren: Reed Viland, Maci Stammer, and Rhett Viland. Francis served his country as a ground radio operator in the Air Force during the Korean War and worked as an air traffic controller for the FAA. He loved taking care of a local softball field, gardening, and had a deep passion for airplanes. Known for his gift of gab and chronic curiosity, he was a magnetic personality who made a friend out of everyone he met. He was also an avid collector of baseball hats and a cherished member of a coffee club that met every morning for decades. Rose was a devoted homemaker and caretaker, known for making the world's best grilled cheeses and for raising seven beautiful children. She was skilled at embroidery and was always caring for children, whether they were hers or not. With a sharp sense of humor and the best hearing in the world despite her love for resting her eyes, she was a beloved figure in the community. Both were active members of their church and were known for their generosity and warmth. Francis and Rose were married on June 25, 1960, a union that spanned over six decades and was filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to family and community. They always had room at their table and in their hearts for children from the neighborhood, serving as parental figures to many beyond their own. They are preceded in death by four sons-in-law: Randy Kramp, Mike Young, Rich Smith, and Ron Smart. They are now welcomed into heaven by their deceased relatives, who have been eagerly awaiting their arrival. Their love and memories will forever be cherished by those they leave behind. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 3 PM - 8 PM at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554. Prayers will begin at 9 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the funeral and will process to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8S055 Dugan Road, Sugar Grove, IL for 10 AM Mass.
