Thomas J. Nolan of Owatonna, Minnesota, passed away peacefully June 26, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday July 1, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna with a Knights of Columbus rosary. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Tom was born June 13, 1932, in Mankato, to Raymond and Margaret (Keeley) Nolan. He graduated from Janesville High school in 1950. He attended Mankato Teachers College until he entered the army and was stationed in Germany. After returning from the Army, he attended Lee Barber School in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1958, Tom was employed by Harold Deitz as a barber in Owatonna. In later years, he purchased the business, continuing barbering for 40 plus years in his shop. On October 4, 1958, Tom married Janet Kotten at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Together they raised their four children, Jane, Pat, Peggy, and Mike. Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was an Honory member of Knights of Columbus Council #945 and the Msgr. Henry Speck 4th Degree Assembly #2300. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks, and the Eagles Club. He was very proud of his 100 percent Irish Heritage. His life interests included golfing, playing cards, pool, and spending time with his family. Surviving Tom are wife, Janet; children, Jane (Dave) Moline, Margaret "Peggy" (Steve) Tanzer, Michael (Cindy) Nolan; daughter in law, Angie Nolan. He was preceded in death by his son, Pat, granddaughter, Alicia, his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. |
