"Mark" John Nelson, DDS, age 91, passed away on June 14, 2024 in Owatonna where he lived since 1969. Mark will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling cemetery at a later date. Mark was born to Hazel and George Nelson on August 9, 1932. He had 3 siblings and was the youngest with a twin sister. He grew up in Morgan, Minnesota, graduated from Morgan HS as salutatorian, attended St John's University, transferred to the University of Minnesota, served in the army for 2 years (Fort Bliss, Texas and Germany), then returned to the U of M to finish Dental school in 1959. Upon finishing dental school, Mark and family moved to Hendricks, MN where he opened his dental practice and lived there until 1969 when they moved to Owatonna. Mark and Darlene met through Dar's older brother Dan Kreuger and were married for 65+ years. They were blessed with 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mark enjoyed spending time with his kids/grandkids and loved to hunt, fish, golf, camp and tell stories with his friends at the Elks and KC's. After retirement, Mark volunteered for SEMCAC driving the 'old' people to appointments. Mark always made time to visit with friends that were sick or recovering from something or helping a friend in need. Mark loved to create 'traditions' with his family that carried on for many years, these traditions include work and play. Mark's motto 'Family helps Family'. Mark's faith was very important to him as he regularly attended Mass and shared his talents by participating in the church choir, adoration and ushering at Masses. Mark was an honary member of Knights of Columbus Council 945 and a member of Msgr. Henry Speck Fourth Degree Assembly #2300. Mark volunteered at SEMCAC, St Joseph's Church, and the Veterans Affair. |
