COUNCIL #1384 - ANNAPOLIS REMEMBERS
KEVIN MICHAEL BARRY, SR

 

Kevin Michael Barry, Sr., passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015, after a brief illness, at the Kline Hospice House in Frederick County, MD. A first-generation American, Kevin was born on July 5, 1922, in Detroit, MI, to the late John Michael and Catherine Healy Barry. Kevin proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a bombardier during WWII. After WWII, Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management (1954) and a Masters of Business Administration degree (1962) from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Kevin’s business career began in 1949 with the Archdiocese of Detroit at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery where he served as assistant manager. He became a member of the newly created National Catholic Cemetery Conference in 1951. In 1966 he joined the Archdiocese of Washington as the first manager of the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD and was one of the first cemeterians to earn the title of Certified Catholic Cemetery Executive (CCCE). He retired to Annapolis in 1992. Kevin was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis, the Knights of Columbus, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Lions Club, and various other charitable organizations. In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Quinkert Barry; son, Kevin Michael Barry, Jr.; son-in-law, James Heil; brother, Patrick Barry and sisters, Maureen Vandenbranden, Catherine Bartz and Agnes Mary Barry. Kevin is survived by two daughters, Dolores Heil of Frankfort, IL and Maureen (Steve) Mussler of Frederick, MD; daughter-in-law, Cherie Miller Barry; six grandchildren, Jennifer and James Heil, Alison Cadden, Brian Barry, Christine and Daniel Mussler and three great-grandsons, Jacob, Mason, and Nathaniel. Friends are invited to Kevin’s Life Celebration from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 22 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am on Friday, January 23 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Heritage Harbour Health Group, both located in Annapolis.
