Armando was born in Pampanga, Philippines to Cirilo and Teresa Joson on April 11, 1948. He married Diana Joson on September 21, 1974, in Guam. He grew up in Dau Mabalacat Pampanga, Philippines, and graduated from Holy Angel University in Angeles City.
In his early years between 1966-1976, in Clark Air Force Base (AFB), Philippines, and Andersen AFB, Guam, he worked in the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Bakery. He then enlisted into the United States Army in 1979, where he spent 20 years active duty across the United States and internationally, including Andersen AFB Yigo, GUAM; Ft. Lewis, WASHINGTON; Schofield Barracks, HAWAII; Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C.; Frankfurt, GERMANY; and concluding at Ft. Belvoir, VIRGINIA in 1999. His decorated military career supporting Personnel Commands as a Career Counselor included medals in Army Commendation, Army Achievement, Army Good Conduct, and National Defense Service. Ribbons included Noncommisioned Officer’s Professional Development, Army Service, and Overseas Service. He also earned the Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.
He would further support the Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) as a Quality Control/Quality Assurance Manager at Ft. Belvoir, Marine Corps Base Quantico, and Misawa AFB in Japan, retiring as a federal civilian in 2010. He was a beloved member of the Filipino-American Ministry of Sacred Heart Church and Families in Christ Jesus Community (FCJC) of Virginia, and Knights of Columbus 2nd Degree Member of the 8183 Lake Ridge council. He was a former member of the United States Chess Federation and would also compete in military-sponsored chess tournaments as a US Army representative while active duty.
Armando Joson is preceded in death by his parents Cirilo and Teresa Joson; wife Diana Joson; brothers Lamberto Joson, Diosdado Joson, Demetrio Joson; sisters Aurora Agustin, Teodora Cinco, Gloria Padua, Lucia Cervantes; nieces Bienvenida Dizon, Ruth Cervantes, Alicia Cervantes; nephew Roberto Cervantes.
