ALAN EDWARD DUKE

 

Alan Edward Duke passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 7, 2023, in Washington, D.C. He was born in Framingham, MA. to the late Ann Healey Duke and James Edward Duke.

He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA in 1968 then served his beloved country in the U.S. Navy from 1970 until being honorably discharged in 1976. He volunteered to teach school in Jamaica for a year of service for the Catholic Church before he transitioned in employment to the Department of Defense helping to keep us secure in the cyber world, retiring after 30 years of federal service.

Working in Maryland led him to meet the love of his life, Gloria Jean, his wife of 37 years. Together they raised two daughters; Regina and her husband Timothy Ahalt and Melinda and her husband Richard Elliott.

He is survived by his adoring grandchildren, Brendan Ahalt, Christian Ahalt, Cameron Ahalt, Madison Ahalt, Dakota Ringer, Hunter Ringer, Faith Naill, Haiden Naill, Adrianna Stewart, Bryce Elliott, Annalise Elliott and Logan Elliott. He was proud to survive multiple health crisis to be a great-grandfather to Mason Ahalt, Lena Ahalt and Bodhi Ringer.
Alan is survived by his sister and her husband, Judith & Gary Campbell, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and 6 grand- nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Duke.

Alan devoted his life to service for others. He volunteered with numerous organizations including the Frederick County Planning Commission, the Frederick County Board of Appeals, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church-Libertytown, Monocacy National Battlefield, the Monocacy National Battlefield Foundation, Inc. and the Frederick County Literacy Council. He served on the St. Peter Bicentennial Committee, attending the celebratory ball at Dutch’s Daughter, just prior to his hospitalization.
