Anthony “Tony†Joseph Aweeky of Southport, North Carolina, passed away on November 9, 2023.
Tony was born on May 31, 1930 in Troy, New York, son of Amin and Behia Aweeky.
He was raised in Brooklyn along with his two sisters, Annie and Angie.
He went on to become a social studies teacher at John Jay High School.
After retiring from teaching, Tony and his wife, Carol, moved to Southport. Tony became involved in the Boiling Spring Lakes community by serving on the town council. He also started woodworking and making heirloom toy train sets, cars, airplanes and golf carts. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the BSL Community Center.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carol.
He is survived by his three children, Peter Aweeky and his wife Margaret, Paul Aweeky and his wife Cynthia, and Liz Callaghan and her husband Mike; eight grandchildren, Paul Jr., Michele, Alex, Andrew, Olivia, Emily, Kate and Conor; and five great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Iggy, Julianna, James Jr, and Violet.
The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, with interment of ashes at Sacred Heart Columbarium. |
