Mr. Lyle P Brown, age 75, of Southport, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, December 29, 2023 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick following a brief illness.
Lyle was born in Washington, DC on June 28, 1948 to the late Edward Pierce and Edith Upchurch Brown. Growing up, he spent his childhood between Panama, Guatemala and Northern Virginia.
He attended McLean High school and was voted “Friendliest†as a senior superlative. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Economics from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
In 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Kest. Together they raised their 2 daughters: Allison Marie and Victoria Katrine.
Lyle began his career in labor relations where he worked for the Department of Labor and Department of Energy. He retired in 2000 and returned to his southern roots in North Carolina.
He happily retired in St. James where he spent many enjoyable hours of golfing. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. Lyle was extremely social and formed many strong relationships. He was very much a gentleman and a loving husband and father.
In 2004, he converted to Catholicism. He was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Barbara; his children Allison Ramsey (Matt), and Victoria Kornegay (Michael); his grandchildren, Graham Ramsey, Piper Ramsey, Ella Kornegay and Levi Kornegay.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on January 26, 2024 at 12:00 pm. A reception will immediately follow.
