James Walsh Obituary
James Justin "Jim" Walsh, 93, died peacefully at his residence in Alpharetta, Ga., on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023.
Jim was born June 24, 1930, in New Brunswick, N.J., to Arthur and Elizabeth (Saulsberry) Walsh.
Jim grew up in Highland Park, N.J., and earned an undergraduate degree from St. Peter's College and graduate degrees from Seton Hall University and Rutgers University. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving in the Pacific Ocean as an ordinance ensign on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard. He was selected for officers training school, after which he was promoted to lieutenant in April 1954 and stationed in Sunnyvale, Calif. During his time in the Navy, he married Marcella "Marrie" Kehoe on Dec. 27, 1952.
Upon leaving the service, Jim and Marrie moved back to their home state of New Jersey with their two sons, James and Peter, and in subsequent years would have three more children, Marylynn, David and Cindy. He began what would be a successful business career, culminating with a long tenure as chief financial officer for Nylok Fastener Corporation. In 1977, Nylok moved headquarters from New Jersey to Michigan, and Jim and Marrie moved to Rochester Hills, Mich., where they spent the next 20 years. After retiring in 1997, they moved to Tellico Village and enjoyed more than 20 years of happy retirement.
Jim is survived by Marrie, his beloved wife of more than 70 years; five children, James (Alison), Peter (Theresa), Marylynn Miles (Kevin), David (Theresa) and Cindy Hess (Robert); brother, Kevin; and 11 grandchildren, Kate Walsh, Patsy Walsh (Xie, Zhen), Maureen Walsh, Kerry Miles, Emily Miles, Jessi Bouchard (Brad), Rachel Walsh, Justin Walsh, Bobby Hess, Kelsey Hess and Margo Hess.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary; and brother, Thomas.
The family will celebrate a memorial mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City followed by a family celebration of Jim's life. |
