COUNCIL #16730 - FR. PAUL OF GRAYMOOR REMEMBERS
RICHARD V DI FILIPPO

“As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” -Joshua 24:15

Richard V. Di Filippo, Jr. (Rick) went to be with our Lord on July 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father Richard V. Di Filippo, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Deborah; children John (Katherine), and Aaron (Heather), Cathrin, and Mary Shannon Di Filippo; mother Mary Jo Di Filippo; sister Laure (Richard) Rasor, brothers John (Patty), Lawrence (Sandra), and William Di Filippo; 14 nieces and nephews; and eight grandchildren Isaac, Grace, Adelaide, Eva, Clara, Tessa, Felicity, and baby boy (due September).

Rick was born in San Antonio, TX on February 28, 1955. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Rick was vice-president of the family terrazzo business, the Venice Art Terrazzo Company, which was started in 1934. Working alongside his father, mother, brother, daughter (Cathrin), and nephew, he was instrumental in coordinating many notable projects that the company completed in San Antonio including the Henry B. Convention Center, the Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union, and in surrounding areas such as the Polish Heritage Center in Panna Maria, TX, which earned national recognition at the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association Convention in 2023.

Rick lived his life according to what he lovingly called the 3 C’s – Confidence, Commitment, and Character. He was a devoted disciple of Christ and had a true servant’s heart. This was evidenced by his involvement in many organizations at St. Matthew Catholic Church including the Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, ACTS ministry, Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist, Eucharistic Adoration, Wednesday Men’s Prayer Group, and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. He was involved in the Harlandale Lions Club, serving as a past president of the club and an avid supporter of the fight against Muscular Dystrophy through his donations and volunteer work with the MD camp for children.

Rick, an Eagle Scout and elected member of the scouting Order of the Arrow, also shared a special interest in mentoring young men. He was a leader in Boy Scout Troops 445 and 271, which included his two sons who received their Eagle Scout awards.

One of Rick’s greatest joys was being outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and hiking alongside his children and grandchildren, especially at his beloved family ranch in Medina, TX. He enjoyed traveling all over the country with his daughters to gymnastics meets and attending choir performances with the San Antonio Children’s Chorus. He loved working on many special projects, including constructing a beautiful playhouse and a treehouse for his grandchildren. Throughout his life, Rick remained faithful to his mission to serve his family, friends, and community. His mission did not end with his death but will continue as he seeks to guide and bless his family and friends from heaven.
