A. DAVID NECCO

 

A. David Necco passed away peacefully on June 16 while visiting friends and family. David was born in Gary, Indiana, on January 31, 1936, to Sandro and Mary Necco. While a youngster, the family moved to Reno, Nevada, where he attended Elementary and High School and compiled an impressive record as an amateur boxer. A proud Marine, he enlisted in 1953, at age 17, as a Private. In 1958 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and retired as a Lt. Col from the Marine Corps Reserve (JAG) in 1982.

David graduated from the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and History and was Pledge Master of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He obtained his Law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1964 and was a member of Phi Delta Phi. David was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1965.

During his career, he was admitted to the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the 10th Circuit Federal Court, and Western Federal District Court as well as numerous lesser courts.

David was managing partner in the firm of Necco and Byrd, P.C. with Charles J. Byrd for more than 30 years, retiring in 2019. He was recognized in 2015 as a 50-year member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. In addition to running his own practice, he was an Adjunct Professor in the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University. He taught undergraduate Business Law and graduate courses in Public International Law and Ethics in Business Law. He was also an exchange professor for OCU School of Business in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

David was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, OK and initiated as a Third-Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus in 2020.

David is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Joanne Necco, Ph.D., daughter Laurie Necco Stansbury (John) of Edmond, OK; daughter Laura Puryear-Garrett (Carol) of Edmond, OK; and son Douglas Puryear (Carrie) of Edmond, OK. Grandchildren include Colin Stansbury (Sabrina) of Brighton, UK; Caroline Stansbury of London, UK; Trey Puryear (Caity) of Oklahoma City, Noel Puryear (Kayla) of Edmond, OK and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife Caroline, and sons Michael and Anthony.
