Dr. Wesley Carlton Luther, 88, of North Charleston, the widower of Annamai Voisard Luther, died Friday, February 18, 2005 at his home. Born October 9, 1916 in Buffalo, New York, son of the late Carl A. Luther and Alice McLaughlin Luther. Dr. Luther was a graduate of Bennett High School Class of 1934, Buffalo, NY; the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. He retired from Family Practice Medicine. Dr. Luther was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Goose Creek and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Athol Springs, NY. He was a 4thDegree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member for 59 years. Dr. Luther was a former Commander of the Hamburg Power Squadron; a fellow Rotarian and Past President of the Rotary of Hamburg, NY; Vice President of the state Osteopathic Medical Association of New York; past President of the West New York Chapter of Osteopathic Medical Association; a member of the Navy League and Coast Guard Auxiliary in Buffalo and was a former board member of Hamburg Peoples Bank. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golf, bowling, playing Bridge, collecting coins, currency and was active in the Lowcountry Senior Games. Dr. Luther will be deeply missed by his six children: Ralph R. Luther (Sharon), Andrew C. Luther (Toni), Robert C. Luther (Linda), Thomas M. Luther (Kathleen), Paulette L. LePine (Glenn) and JoAnne L. Varco; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Merlin Luther and sister, Eileen Marchant. Friends may call between the hours of 6 and 8 PM with the Rosary being recited at 7PM on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL, 100 S. Goose Creek Blvd., (Hwy 52) Goose Creek. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, February 21stat Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Goose Creek. Interment will be held Thursday, February 24thin Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC, 29445.
