COUNCIL #13290 - ST. PETER THE APOSTLE REMEMBERS
PAUL PIEKLO

Paul Daniel Pieklo Sr., age 76, of Walkersville, passed away early Friday morning, January 13, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital.

Born September 8, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Helen Jarosz Pieklo. He was the husband of Mary Margaret Pieklo, his wife of 53 years, who he adored. He is also survived by his children, Helena Marie Laug and husband Eric of Adamstown, Paul Daniel Pieklo, Jr. of Fairfax, VA, and Timothy Mark Pieklo and wife Emily of Walkersville. He was the very proud Pap Pap to grandchildren, Julia Margaret and Brede Paul Laug, Gwenyth Paige, Gabrielle Rae, and Ginger Leia Pieklo, Joseph Mark, Luke Anderegg, Nathaniel Paul, Evalyn Morrow and Benjamin Kolbe Pieklo. Paul is also survived by siblings, Mary Lou Denman and husband Mike, David Allen Pieklo and partner Dean Gray; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Christine Betleski.

Paul graduated from St. George’s High School in Pittsburgh and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served our country and enjoyed being stationed in Winter Harbor, Maine. After his honorable discharge, he and his family lived in Chicago while he worked for GenRad, based in Boston. With his job he traveled the east coast, eventually settling in the Frederick County area. In 2018, he retired from Frederick County Bank.

While he worked hard to provide for his family, Paul found delight in fishing and camping, working in his yard and tending the grill for family barbecues. He was a family man through and through and put their needs first at all times. He gained tremendous joy over the last 23 years from time spent with his 10 grandchildren. Paul was known to dress up at Halloween as Captain Feathersword, lay on the living room floor and build with blocks or play games, and make funny faces just to make them laugh. His bright blue eyes and fuzzy eyebrows spoke volumes and told stories all on their own. Paul was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a huge Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons fan. Many stories have been shared about going to Frankie’s concerts and “meeting up” with Frankie, like they were old friends. Paul was an active parishioner with St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Libertytown, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

His family would like to thank the Frederick Health Hospital ICU nurses and staff for their wonderful care over the last few weeks.

A visitation will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home-Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd., Frederick on Friday, Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Deacon John Martin.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church-Libertytown, which is one block north of the Rt. 26 and Rt. 75 intersection. Father Chuck Wible will be the celebrant. Military interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
