On January 3rd, 2022, John Whorton went to be with our Lord. He was 76 years old.
John is survived by his wife, Debbie Whorton, his children Dawn Vines (Don) of Moore, OK, Alex Whorton (Luann) of Scappoose, OR, step-children Nicole Nichols of Edmond, OK, Clinton Lackner (Sara) of Edmond, OK, Chris Lackner (Audrey) of San Diego, CA and siblings Joe Whorton of Arlington, VA, Jerry Whorton (Gloria) of Pasadena, CA, and Jim Whorton (Wendy) of Moore, OK, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Julia Whorton and sister, Judy Madewell. Many nieces and nephews loved John dearly.
John was born on November 25th, 1945 in Oklahoma City, OK. He graduated from Mount Saint Mary's High School in 1963 and went on to attend Oklahoma University where he graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Business.
John loved God and family like no other. He was active in his church and served in many ways. He was part of the Evangelization group, Newcomers group, Usher, Greeter, Adoration and Knights of Columbus. He would help in any way that he could.
One of our fondest memories was taking orders for the Edmond Thanksgiving dinner. We both learned and had a new appreciation of what it was like to be a server. We had fun, laughed, wore ourselves out and enjoyed serving the group.
John was a strong supporter of OU football and all other sports. Saturday was his day to enjoy college sports. The Red River Rivalry was alive and kicking in their home with Debbie being from Texas.
John married Debbie in 2013 after meeting in 2011. Their love for each other brought them through the difficult times with John's health. During their short time together they traveled, explored and fulfilled their dream of moving to Grand Lake. |
