Cary Johnson was called home to be with his Lord on February 12, 2021. His two year journey with leukemia had come to a peaceful end. Cary was born on August 4, 196, in Oklahoma City to Harold and Mary Jo Johnson. Cary grew up attending St. Eugene Catholic Church of Oklahoma City, and graduated in 1980 from Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. He was an active member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, OK, and actively served in the Knights of Columbus.
Cary devoted over 30 years to the security services industry. He proudly worked at Edmond Security, serving many families and businesses in the Edmond community, and later transitioned to Security General International in Oklahoma City where he continued his career until his Leukemia recovery began.
Cary was an honorable man and put first the love for his family and his faith. Family and friends meant everything to him. He was an encouraging force for everyone around him, especially for those he loved. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, however one of his most enjoyable was being Grandpa. Telling grandpa stories lit up his whole being. Experiencing life with his daughter Sara and grandkids was an ultimate joy. Cary's passion for fishing and camping, along with OU football and OKC Thunder basketball were also experiences he enjoyed best, when sharing them with his family and friends.
Cary was a friend to so many. If you were a friend, you were family, and he would do anything for you. Kindness and generosity were the core of who he was and it resonated in his warm smile, his firm hand shake, and his heart of gold. Cary made many new friends while embracing the challenges of cancer and was so grateful for their support. He was determined to not let cancer define him. Cary drew strength from prayer, friends and family to ensure he lived his life to the fullest. And, in true Cary style, he found new purpose, a calling he would say, and gave friendship and inspiration to those around him that were struggling with the similar every day challenges of cancer. He was a beacon of hope for so many until the very end. He did not lose his life to cancer, but lived it courageously, with grace and won eternal life with his Lord and Savior.
Cary is survived by his beloved parents Harold and Mary Jo Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK; His daughter Sara Johnson Gnau and fiancé Chris Alexander, His grandchildren Brylee, Austin, Kam and Carson of Blanchard, OK; His three siblings Kim Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK; Tammy Goodwin and husband Scott of Edmond, OK; Robert Johnson and wife Natalie of Sallisaw, OK; His nephew and nieces Lindsey, Matt, Sara, Katie, Kara, Avery and Camdyn; And, his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he loved very much.
