Obituary


Lt. Colonel Joseph P. Mastrucci, a decorated career US Army officer, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 a couple of weeks shy of his 102nd birthday.
Born November 7, 1912 in Kane, PA, a son of the late John and Agatha Mastrucci, Joe was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a chemical engineer for Standard Oil Company in Toledo, Ohio, before being called to active duty military service in 1940.
LTC Mastrucci was assigned to Fort Meade, MD before he retired from the military in 1966. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam and a recipient of the Bronze Star.
The family stayed in Odenton, MD and Mr. Mastrucci worked for Westinghouse and then Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
He had been a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Odenton, MD for almost fifty years.
Survived by two children, Joe Mastrucci, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Miami, FL and Dr. Terry Mastrucci and her husband, Dr. Eddo deLang of Cortland, NY; four grandchildren, Michael, Katie and Christie Mastrucci and Mark deLang; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Germaine T. "Gerry" Mastrucci in 2000.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, November 3, 2014 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Rd., Odenton, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by the Rev. James Kiesel and Rev. William Viola. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at the Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD.
