Richard Russum Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Richard Allen Russum Sr., 64, passed away Jan. 28, 2010 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Mr. Russum was born in Laurel, Miss., to the late Herbert Russum and Virginia Hart Russum. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, George MacDonald. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service as a senior chief petty officer and from Canada Company in Portsmouth as a truck driver. He resided in Virginia Beach since 1985 and was a member of Ascension Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights Of Columbus, Mother Theresa Of Calcutta Council. Survivors include the love of his life and soulmate, his loving wife of 28 years, Maria Margaret Russum; a daughter, Shirley Headrick, both of Virginia Beach; a sister-in- law, Eva MacDonald of Irmo, S.C.; a niece, Diana Schmid and husband Robert of Braubeuren, Germany; and two grandnieces and two grandnephews. A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ascension Catholic Church by Father James Parke. Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Knights Of Columbus Honor Guard. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on April 6, 2010, at 9 a.m. The family would like to express their appreciation to Davita Dialysis and Portsmouth Naval Hospital for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's.
