SK LAWRENCE MATTHEW MCCORMACK JR. Lawrence Matthew “Mike†McCormack, Jr., 80, of Virginia Beach, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital. Born February 22, 1932 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Lawrence Matthew McCormack and Mary Virginia (Breneisen) McCormack. Mike was a 1950 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1959 graduate of West Virginia University. Mike was a chemist employed by the FDA, Edgewood Arsenal at Aberdeen Proving Ground, NBC Advisor to CINCLANTFLT, and the Battelle Memorial Institute. Mike also held the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps. He was a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus and was Past Faithful Navigator with the Father Michael J. McGivney Assembly in Virginia Beach. Mike was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Constance (Noble) McCormack of Virginia Beach; five sons, Kevin McCormack of Morgantown, WV, Lawrence L. McCormack of Baltimore, MD, Keith McCormack of Lutherville, MD, Brian McCormack of Bel Air, MD, and Eric McCormack of West Frankfort, IL; one daughter Marcella (McCormack) Madden of Yountville, CA; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and niece, April Brown Stover of Katy, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Harvey Brown and John E. McCormack; and one sister, Marion V. McCormack. The family will receive friends for a Chalice ceremony to be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 7:00-8:30 PM in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael Gabler as celebrant. Interment prayers will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to KOVAR, 4748 Michaux Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. |
