Richard Dominic Astrella of Columbia, SC passed away on May 8, 2022 at MUSC Health Medical Center in Columbia, SC. Born in South Philadelphia, September 11, 1931, to Michael and Anna Astrella; he lived in Columbia, SC for 25 years. He was the beloved husband of Nereida Astrella ; father of Karen Duva (deceased) and Richard Astrella Jr.; step-father of Enrique Caballero; brother of Arline Pacitti and Michael Astrella Jr. (deceased); and grandfather of Nicholas Duva, Emilia Caballero, Enrique Caballero Jr., and Eduardo Caballero.
In addition to being a loving husband and father, Richard worked the majority of his professional career in print advertising managing accounts for multiple newspapers. He was a proud member of the Pennsylvania National Guard serving for thirteen (13) years.
Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter and fisherman,appreciated the sport of skiing, and took pleasure in improving his golf game. Richard was always on the go and often combined his passion for traveling with sporting activities. He treasured vacations with his wife and family, taking a cruise or visiting international destinations.
He loved spending time with family and friends, and was highly sociable. His stories were varied and filled with tales from his life in South Philadelphia. Richard was warm hearted, good natured, and easily made friends everywhere he went. His charisma attracted many and he cherished these relationships; staying in close contact over the years. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, willingness to help those in need, and his love of God. Those who knew him loved him and know he is watching over them as one of God’s angels. |
