John J. Eggerl

August 14, 1938 - October 12, 2014

John Joseph Eggerl, 76, died peacefully in his home October 12, 2014 after a 15 year battle with cancer. Born August 14, 1938, "Johnny" lived most of his life on Blob's Park Road in Jessup, MD until moving to Crownsville in 2008.

Johnny graduated from Arundel High School in 1956. It was there where he met his high school sweetheart, Josephine Smith, who he married in 1959. They were happily married for 55 years.

After graduating from Strayer Business College, Johnny worked for American Oil Company. He served in the 113th Air National Guard for 8 years in the 1960's. In 1961 he became a full-time farmer on his family farm, which he truly loved. He was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Jessup retiring with 30 years service. For his entire life, however, he worked in the family business, Blob's Park. John eventually took over managing Blob's Park full-time with his mother until his retirement in 2007.

John was a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jessup and the Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by his father John Eggerl, his mother Katherine Blob Eggerl and sister Katherine Scopp. He is survived by his loving wife Jo and their children; William J. Eggerl and his wife Valerie, J. David Eggerl, Robert M. Eggerl and his wife Sandy, and T. Suzanne Goetzke and her husband Paul; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; sisters Anna Henline and Mary Marriner, and brother Max Eggerl.

Johnny will be remembered for his sense of humor, his infectious laugh, his never-ending willingness to help others, and his devoted love for his family and close friends.

The family will receive visitors at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Parish, 2815 Jessup Rd., Jessup, MD 20794 on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 10am. Interment will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, www.cff.org and to American Cancer Society , www.cancer.org.
