December 27, 1954 - April 28, 2022
Andrew (Andy) Lubinsky passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the age of 67.
After graduating from Gordon E. Perdue High School, Andy studied Political Science and Philosophy at the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1979. He went on to complete a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Toronto Faculty of Management Studies (now Rotman School of Management; class of 1981).
Andy met his wife Denise the day before New Year’s Eve in 1983 and it was love at first sight. They got engaged 3 months later and were married on October 27, 1984. They went on to raise their children, Anna and Christina, in Oakville, where Andy was born. His love and devotion to his family and career were evident in all aspects of his life.
He was an innovative marketing strategic planner across several industries. Most notably he worked as Senior Director at McDonalds Restaurants of Canada and later as Chief Strategy Officer at the Bible League of Canada. His work with the Bible League took him on travels around the globe including the U.S., Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Israel, Romania, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Korea, and India.
Andy was also active in a variety of hobbies and interests. He was passionate about gardening - there was always something in bloom in the family garden throughout the growing months; exercising - he kept years of workout data in spreadsheets; the study of history- especially from WWII; and watching and playing sports - he was an Argos, Leafs, Raptors, Jays, Green Bay, and Notre Dame fan and loved encouraging his daughters in soccer and tennis as children. He was also an accomplished pianist with a knack for picking up tunes by ear, especially his choral favourites.
Andy had a deep faith in Christ and a life given rhythm by daily prayer, Mass, and reading of scripture. He was an RCIA leader and sponsor at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church of Oakville. He frequently attended Mass at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Stoney Creek while on the way to work. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Andy served as President of the St. Michael’s College Alumni Association from 2009 to 2021. He always spoke fondly of his years at St. Mike’s and had played intramural football (jersey number 32). He received the Arbor Award in 2011, which recognises University of Toronto volunteers who, through their exemplary generosity, make sustained and valuable contributions to the experience of U of T students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Andy had a lifetime love of learning and was in the middle of pursuing a Master of Theological Studies at the Toronto School of Theology. He was preparing to take a sabbatical from his work at the Bible League in order to study full time and work on his Master’s thesis.
Andy is survived by his wife, Denise, and his children Anna (Daniel) Livera and Christina (Jonathon) Fossella, and granddaughter Phoebe Livera. He is survived by his parents-in-law Robert and Shareen Lenders, his siblings Mary-Anne (Walter) Zubrycky, Luba (Uli Mast) Lubinsky, and Catherine (David MacIntyre) Lubinsky, and Ronald (Karen) Lenders, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews living across Canada and the United States. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Anne Lubinsky. He is deeply missed by all.
