James Jay “Jim” Maes, 91, De Pere, passed away early Saturday morning, April 16, 2022. He was born June 23, 1930 in Green Bay to Vernon and Catherine (Zentmeyer) Maes.

Jim graduated in 1948 from Nicolet High School in De Pere. Drafted into the Army, he served in Japan during the Korean war from 1951 – 1953. He married Mary Ellen Brooks at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, De Pere on August 21, 1957. Jim graduated from St. Norbert College in 1959 with a degree in accounting. Jim was employed as a Management Accountant at both Maes Bus Service and in the paper industry until his retirement.

An avid photographer, Jim enjoyed capturing memories at family gatherings and holidays. Jim was active in the De Pere community, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, St. Norbert College Golden Knights, and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family. Jim enjoyed camping with the family in the Maes Flower, the old school bus that he converted into a camper. He retired the camper and loved spending time at A-Maes-Inn, the summer cottage on the Bay. There he enjoyed making Booyah, puzzles, and watching activities on the Bay. Winters were for bowling and Monday night poker games.

He is survived by his wife Mary; sixchildren and their spouses, Bill and Julie Maes, Tom Maes, Julie and Andy Burkard, Mike Maes, Andy Maes, Jeff Maes; and grandchildren, Kathryn, Alyssha, Rachel, Kyle, Rebecca, Lindsey, and brother Dick.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Dave and Don.

Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, De Pere, after 9:00AM Saturday, April 23rd, until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM with Fr. James Baraniak O.Praem. officiating. Full military honors will follow.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes would be appreciated.
