James “Jim†Ryan , 72 of Kearney passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney followed by a 7:00 p.m. Vigil/Prayer Service. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Catholic Church to be used for future garden and landscaping projects. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services.
One of eleven children, James Ryan was born June 6, 1949 in Colby, Kansas to H.L. and Ethel (Bailey) Ryan. He attended school in Atwood, KS and later at St. Joseph’s Military Academy where he was a State Champion wrestler. Jim also attended Fort Hays State College. On January 18, 1977, he was united in marriage to Lois Bielser in Colby, KS. To this union two children were blessed. Jim worked and managed many grain elevators and COOPs across Kansas. In 2004, Jim and Lois moved to Kearney where he worked as a driver for Cashwa Distributing.
Jim was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and served as a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois Ryan of Kearney; daughters Amy (Andrew) Prochaska and Whitney Ryan and significant other, Antoine Young of Kearney; grandchildren, Brady, Grace, Josie, Laney Prochaska; siblings, Margaret (Don) Spangler of Kearney, Rosie (Jerome) Schell of Sterling, CO, Mary Kay Woydziak of Hoisington, KS, Larry (Linda) Ryan of Gem, KS, Bill (Kathy) Ryan of Colby, KS, Terry Ryan of Wichita, KS, Betty (Jon) Gaines of Overbrook, KS, Donnie Ryan of Peoria, AZ and Jerry (Terri) Ryan of Russell, KS; sister-in-law Patricia Ryan Marcy of Oakley, KS; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Ryan; and his brother-in-law, Jim Woydziak. |
