DONALD A S HILDEBRAND

 

Donald Arthur Hildebrand, Sr., 82, of Fredericksburg, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by Jeanne, his bride of 52 loving years, and his son, Donald Arthur Hildebrand, Jr. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Atlantic Theatre on the U.S.S. Europa. After serving his country, he graduated from high school and continued his studies in the nursing profession. He received his nursing diploma from Hudson River State Hospital and continued his education by receiving his anesthesia license. He moved his family to Fredericksburg in 1964 and began 28 years of service to the patients of Mary Washington Hospital. In 1991, he was forced to retire due to sudden illness. He gave over 50 years of faithful service with the Knights of Columbus and achieved many honors which includes: Grand Knight 1986-87, District Deputy, Faithful Navigator and Sir Knight of the Year. He was a member of the Ancient Order Hibernians and held many offices with the Izaak Walton League of America. Donald also served with many local and charitable organizations. He was a wonderful father and teacher to his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sharing his wisdom of hunting, fishing, backpacking, and conservation. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his four sons, Daniel J. Hildebrand of Locust Grove, Douglas E. Hildebrand of Stafford, David F. Hildebrand of Ft. Myers, and Dennis J. Hildebrand of Stafford; two daughters, Mary Ellen Taylor of Stafford, and Diane J. Brooks of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth Rodney of North Carolina and Marion Bambach of New Jersey; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
