COUNCIL #4034 - FREDERICKSBURG REMEMBERS
EMMANUEL A LUCIA

Emmanuel Anthony "Manny" Lucia was born Oct. 27, 1931, and died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.
He was the immigrant son of Francesco and Maria Rosa Lucia. He moved with his mother and sister from Roggiano Gravina, Italy, to join his father in Pittsburgh, Pa.; from where the family was separated during World War II.
He grew up in Ambridge, Pa., and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the Korean War. After his tour of duty in the U.S. Army, he returned to college and graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a degree in physics. He met his wonderful wife at The Sons of Italy Club in Ambridge in 1959. Shortly after graduating from college he began his career as a physicist at Frankfurt Arsenal in Philadelphia. He proposed to Dolores, who was back in Pittsburgh at the time, and three months later they were married. They were married for nearly 51 years and had two sons, Frank and Manie.
In 1977, he relocated his family to Fredericksburg to accept a position at Dahlgren with the NSWC. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. He left a lasting impression on Stafford youth as an animated coach and figure in the county's burgeoning youth soccer league. He retired from the federal government in 1990 and became a government contractor for Vitro Corp. from 1990 to 1996. He spent the remainder of his career as a substitute teacher in the Spotsylvania County school system.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Dolores; his sons, Frank (Megan) and Manie (Kelly); and his eight amazing grandchildren, Gabriella, Nick and Ryan Myers, Jacqueline, Dorothy, George, Anthony and Salvatore; his loving sister, Carmela Volpe of Pittsburgh; and countless uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. You all meant the world to him.
The family will receive guests from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at St. Jude Catholic Church on Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania. Interment will be at Quantico, National Cemetery.
He was the best husband and father a family could ever want and will be eternally missed.
