EDMUND A SITEK

 

Edmund Sitek, 92 of Ladysmith, formerly of Fredericksburg died Sunday April 14, 2013 at his home.
Ed was a retired Transportation Supervisor for Stafford County Schools. Prior to that, he was a route driver "milk man" for Farmers Creamery from the late1940's through the closing of the Creamery in the early 1960's. Ed was a World War II Veteran of the Marine Corps who settled in Fredericksburg in 1945 following his discharge from the Marines at Quantico. He was recalled to service during the Korean War when the entire Fredericksburg Marine Reserve Unit was activated.
A native of Detroit, he was one of ten children born to Polish Immigrants John Sitek and Josephine Turczyn Sitek. Ed loved his new home and the people of the Fredericksburg Community; and he became a very active participant in this community. Ed was a member and past president of the Stafford County Lions Club; a member and past Grand Knight of the Saint Mary Knights of Columbus Council1968-69; and served in the Silver Haired Legislature in Richmond. Ed is probably best remembered as a well known and dominant fast-pitch softball pitcher in the Fredericksburg Mens Leagues of the1950's and early 60's. He was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Mary's Parrish throughout his life.
Ed was an outgoing individual who "never met a stranger". He lived a rich life of making friendships and helping others. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and large family.
Survivors include four step-children, Peggy McNutt, Gordon Arnold, Jeff Arnold and Marjorie Mc Laughlin; a sister, Clara Sarzynski; a brother, Richard Sitek; eleven grandchildren, Adam Hamm, Mark McNutt, Megan Arnold, Rachel Morgan, Wade Arnold, Emily Arnold, Julia Arnold, Will Arnold, Erin Arnold, Jeff Arnold and Kaitlyn Arnold; four great grandchildren, Alex Hamm, Kathleen McNutt, Kelley McNutt and Olivia Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Mattie Baker Sitek and Marjorie Ball Sitek and his daughter, Sherry K. Sitek.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial with Marine Corps Honors will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Sparta.
