Robert Howard Lyman, 65, of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his home. Bob Lyman was born September 2,1949 to Herbert & Eleanor Lyman in Long Beach, California. He spent a wonderful childhood in Honolulu,Hawaii, Zanesville,Ohio and Lakewood, California. After graduating high school he attended Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky graduating with a Bachelor's degree in history and went on to later earn his MBA from USC. Following in the footsteps of his military family Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1971. After completing Officer Candidate school he served as battalion adjutant, Field Artillery Officer and Management Officer. While serving a tour of duty in Washington D.C., he met and married Carol Rybik-the love of his life. Retiring in1991 with the rank of Major, he embarked on a second career with terms of employment first as the Executive Director of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Assn and later as the Chief Financial Officer for the Naval Reserve Association/Association of the United States Navy. Illness forced his retirement in 2012. Bob Lyman was a loving husband, conscientious parent and joyful grandparent. He never met a stranger and his kindness and generosity of spirit was known to all.Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carol R. Lyman; son, Brian J. Orman and his wife Angela of Watkinsville Georgia; granddaughters, Georgia Orman, Ava Orman and Genevieve Orman; sister, Patti Ormsby of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus service.A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ostomy Support Group of Northern Virginia, PO Box 231642 Centreville, VA 20120 or to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave. Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
